Warmth — a social phenomenon, an arstistic material

—It all starts with warmth—

How can we understand the role of warmth in creative and social processes? Is it true that warmth is the initiation ofall beginnings? To be a human among humans entails working concisously with social processes, and when interest istaken in this field, it becomes evident that this too has certain universal characteristics. Can one understand socialprocesses as a form of art, and the humans involved as potential artists?

Warmth is undoubtedly essential in social,creational processes. Knowing what characterizes it and how it is cultivated is arguably necessary to become able towork consciously in the social field.

Josefin Winther is an associate professor in Waldorf pedagogy and anthroposophical social pedagogy. She isactive as a songwriter and artist, author and speaker. Winther has a master’s degree in history from the University of Bergen, and a research based master’s degree in education from the Rudolf Steiner University College in Oslo.

Josefin has 20 years of experience from special needs education, teaching young people in need of extensive support in everyday school life. At the Rudolf Steiner University College she leads the bachelor’s degree in social pedagogy. Her pedagogical inspiration and main work lies in the development of pedagogical practices that accommodate and cultivate different human qualities and forms of knowledge, both intellectual, practical and intuitive.

As a performing artist, she has released eight albums, a book and a songbook. She has toured extensively in Norway and abroad. As a writer and speaker, she focuses on challenging the prevailing view of knowledge, inspiring pedagogical innovation and realizing a vision of an inclusive and wholistic educational system.
